Coleman was born in Blackpool Lancashire. She was a student at the Arnold School in Blackpool where she was head of the school and received straight As on her A-levels. In a discussion about her Emmerdale role, Coleman said that she regrets not having had a typical college experience. Coleman was in Crystal Clear at the Edinburgh Festival as part of a group called In Yer Space, which she participated in when she was at school. A prize was given to her for her presentation, while the show was received well. Coleman was offered the role of Jasmine Thomas while she was in auditions at the drama schools. The audition took place in 2005. Coleman received two nominations for awards in 2007. The award was for as the Best Newcomer of 2007 at British Soap Awards and Most Popular Newcomer at the National Television Awards. It was the British Soap Awards 2009 nominated her in both categories: Best Actress - Sexiest Feminine as well as the Best Dramatic Performance category. Coleman received an award at the TV Choice Awards nomination for Best Actress. Steven Moffat announced at a Doctor Who press conference on 21 March that Coleman was the replacement for Karen Gillan as the companion of the Doctor after Arthur Darvill left the series she would play the role alongside Matt Smith. Moffat chose to choose her for the role because she has the most chemistry Smith. Additionally, she was faster than Smith. Eva's roles in TV series Dr. Maria Santos, in All My Children, and Detective Natalia Boa Vista in CSI Miami make an impact. The first role she played on TV earned her the show two Daytime Emmy nominations, and allowed her to develop her love for music. Eva, in addition to acting, is an entrepreneur and philanthropist. She has been married thrice and is the mother of a child from her second husband.
